Each October, the Harold Grinspoon Foundation awards an individual with the JCAMP 180 Philanthropist of the Year Award. As the COVID-19 pandemic took root and the prospect of canceling camp became clear, the Foundation challenged camps to think about financial sustainability for their own survival.
With a generous matching grant, CJ was given the confidence to seek philanthropic support from CJ friends and current camp families. Through the generosity of our parents, and the matching grant, we raised almost $400,000 from parents converting 2020 tuition to a donation.
This year, instead of awarding a single individual, the Harold Grinspoon Foundation was inspired by the generosity of parents who send their kids to Jewish camp. Parents throughout North America donated a total of $6 million through tuition conversion and charitable giving. The Harold Grinspoon Foundation’s Philanthropist of the Year Award for 2020 is bestowed upon the parents of Jewish sleep away campers…that means YOU, CJ Parents! What your generosity has done for Camp Judaea and the momentum it gave us is immeasurable.
A hearty Mazel Tov and Todah Rabah (thank you). Your support means more than you will ever know and we look forward to creating more CJ magic in person this summer!
